A boat of this type, not a photograph of this hull
No photograph of PT-497. This is a U.S. Navy PT boat patrolling off New Guinea in 1943, the same kind of boat. It is not this hull. Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons.

USS PT-497 was a motor torpedo boat of the United States Navy. On the night of 24–25 October 1944 she was on patrol in Surigao Strait, one of the motor torpedo boats out in the strait that night.

The patrol numbered thirty-nine boats. PT-497 was one of them, keeping the patrol in Surigao Strait as the night ran from 24 October into 25 October.

The Battle of Surigao Strait is dated 25 October 1944. In that battle her place was with the motor torpedo boat patrol.

She remained with those boats on patrol in Surigao Strait through the night of 24–25 October 1944, and that patrol was her part in the battle fought on the 25th.
