Queens served as an attack transport of the Windsor class, APA-103. Bethlehem launched her at Sparrows Point on 12 September 1944. She was commissioned on 16 December 1944.

Her passage out brought her by way of Eniwetok, and from that anchorage the track ran on to Iwo Jima. She arrived with troops still to land, and the campaign on the island was at its close.

On 26 March 1945 she sent those troops ashore at Iwo Jima. The campaign closed that day. Her boats made their landing on the final day of the fighting for the island.

The Iwo Jima call was her combat operation. She finished the war afloat, and that landing fell on the closing day of the campaign.
