Rockingham (APA-229) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class built by Kaiser at Vancouver. She was launched on 1 November 1944 and commissioned on 22 November 1944.

Her work was to put soldiers on a beach from the boats at her side, and Okinawa was the beach that work reached.

The troops left her at Okinawa on 26 April 1945. On 27 April she met the opening raid in a long series of attacks by enemy aircraft.

Rockingham survived the war.
