Sibley (APA-206) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class built by Permanente Metals at Richmond. She was launched on 19 July 1944 and commissioned on 2 October 1944.
Early on 19 February 1945 she stood off Iwo Jima. The order to send the troops off arrived in midafternoon, and two hours after that order the ship was clear of them.
Off Okinawa she gave two days to a demonstration staged so it would look like a landing aimed at the southern end of the island.
Sibley survived the war. Two battle stars were on her record, and she was decommissioned on 27 November 1946.
