USS Sims (DD-409) was a destroyer of the United States Navy and the name ship of the Sims class. The class took its name from this hull. W. A. Griswold was her captain from 1 August 1939.

Her listed battle is the Battle of the Coral Sea, dated 8 May 1942, with her own loss set on 7 May. That day she was escorting the oiler Neosho in the Coral Sea, well south of the carriers.

Japanese carrier aircraft found the two ships and took them for a carrier and a cruiser. The oiler and her escort were read as a carrier force.

Bombs from those carrier aircraft sank Sims. The sinking is credited to the Japanese carrier aircraft, and to no single ship among them.

She went down on 7 May 1942 in the Coral Sea while still with Neosho. DD-409, the destroyer that gave the Sims class its name, ended under that attack.
