Talladega (APA-208) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class built by Permanente Metals at Richmond. Miss Marie Tomerlin sponsored her. The ship was launched on 17 August 1944 and commissioned on 31 October 1944.

On 16 February 1945 she left Saipan in Task Group 56.2, sailing with the Assault Group. The morning of 19 February found her off Iwo Jima for the assault.

Ira Hayes and Franklin Sousley had come ashore from her, and so had Harlon Block and Mike Strank. Those Marines went up Suribachi, and the flag-raising there was theirs.

Talladega survived the war. Two battle stars were credited to her.
