Trigger
U.S. Navy. USS Trigger (SS-237) off Mare Island, 6 April 1942. Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons.

USS Trigger (SS-237) was a submarine of the United States Navy. On 4 June 1942 she was on station for the Battle of Midway, in the waters between Midway and Hawaii.

She served there as a backstop. She was not in the carrier fight, and her place in the battle was that station between Midway and Hawaii. Trigger was lost on 28 March 1945. She was sunk in the East China Sea. A Japanese patrol group destroyed her: Mikura, CD-33, and CD-59, with aircraft.

The sinking is not pinned to one ship. It stands to that patrol group as a whole, the named ships and the aircraft together.
