Wintle, hull DE-25, belonged to the Evarts class of destroyer escorts. Mare Island Navy Yard laid her down on 1 October 1942 and launched her on 18 February 1943. The Navy commissioned her on 10 July 1943. Her first commanding officer was Lieutenant Commander Leonard Scott Bailey.

Her Pacific duty took her to Funafuti, the Gilbert Islands, the Marshall Islands, and Majuro. She was credited with 3 battle stars.

Her commissioned service ended on 15 November 1945. She went to the breakers later.
