- USS Bobolink (AM-20) Lieutenant, 1 April 1945 – 1 September 1945
Edward Lewis Givins, a lieutenant, commanded Bobolink from 1 April 1945 to 1 September 1945. NavSource gives the name, the rank, and the dates. The surrender in August 1945 falls inside his tour.
Birth, home, and family were not found.
No academy class and no earlier ship are on the line. He relieved Lieutenant (junior grade) Fulton Glen Reed.
Bobolink's history says she served in Hawaiian waters until the fall of 1945 and then returned to the Mare Island Navy Yard. His tour ends on 1 September 1945. The next officer on the NavSource list, Lieutenant (junior grade) Clair Augustine, begins that day, so the return to Mare Island, if it came in the fall after 1 September, is not placed under Givins. The interim DANFS entry also says she was decommissioned on 22 February 1945, a date before his tour and before the fall service the same paragraph describes. NavSource dates the decommissioning 22 February 1946, under a later captain. Givins is not that captain. What he did in Hawaiian waters, week by week, is not written in the history.
No command after 1 September 1945, and no date of death, was found.
