Source-limited. No biography could be found. The earlier draft notes reached the same conclusion.
Captain Edward Sharpless Jackson graduated from the Naval Academy with the Class of 1900. He was the second captain of Langley (CV-1), the Navy's first aircraft carrier. He relieved Stafford H. R. Doyle on 5 July 1924 and commanded her until 10 June 1926, when Frank R. McCrary relieved him. In those years Langley moved from experiments into fleet service, and the methods worked out on her deck became the basis of American carrier aviation.
NavSource holds a portrait of him, given by Forbes Dix Preston, LTC USAF (Ret.).
Date flag: NavSource gives 5 July 1924 – 10 June 1926. A summary of DANFS gives 6 July 1924 – 12 June 1926.
Needed: birth, death and family details, from the USNA Register, Find a Grave or Arlington. A Neptune-observation author named "Edward S. Jackson" turned up in searches. He is a different person.
