He was not her wartime captain. Captain Peter Michael Moncy had Atlanta (CL-104) until 22 June 1947. Riddle took her on the return from the Australian cruise, before the 28 July arrival at San Pedro, and kept her through the next western Pacific deployment. She reached the United States again on 19 May 1948. Captain Rodger Whitten Simpson relieved him on 12 May 1948, a week before that arrival.
