- USS Grebe (AM-43) Lieutenant, 1 May 1942 – 1 September 1942
Harold Stanley Bogan, a lieutenant in the United States Navy, commanded Grebe from 1 May 1942 to 1 September 1942. NavSource is the source for the name, the rank, and both dates.
Birth, home, and family were not found.
No academy class and no earlier ship appear on the NavSource line. He relieved Lieutenant Commander Ellsworth Dudley McEathron.
He took command while Grebe was still working from Pearl Harbor. On 1 June 1942, a month into his tour, NavSource reclassifies her as the fleet tug AT-134. The 2007 ship's history prints that change on 1 June 1941, which would put it before his command and before the attack. The Navy's list of ships present on 7 December 1941 still carries her as AM-43, so the 1942 date is the one that fits NavSource. The history does not describe a particular job for her between February 1942, when she returned from Palmyra, and 30 September 1942, when she joined a convoy for Johnston Island. That convoy date is after Bogan had been relieved. His own movements during the summer are not described. The ship's history does not say he stayed aboard for the reclassification or that he left her at Pearl Harbor.
No later command, promotion, or date of death was found. Ensign William Lewis Sloan's tour begins on 1 September 1942.
