James Edward Stevens had Flounder (SS-251) from 3 June 1944 until 1 May 1945. uboat.net's command table calls him a temporary commander. The same site's patrol lines call him a lieutenant commander on the second and third patrols and a commander from the fourth. He had her when she sank the Japanese ship Nihonkai Maru on 17 June 1944, when she sank U-537 on 10 November 1944, and when she and Hoe (SS-258) met underwater in February 1945.
