The rank line on the saved commander page runs from acting sub-lieutenant on 15 September 1922 through captain. He was already a captain on the ship list when he joined Royalist. An earlier acting-captain date, 31 December 1942, is on the same rank line.
The naval-history.net chronology puts Royalist off the south of France on 15 August 1944, in the Aegean in September and October, and back at Alexandria on 30 October, nominated for Trincomalee. Uboat.net ends his command in December 1944 and does not give the day. Wilfred Geoffrey Brittain's command also starts in December 1944, with no day. The two are not given a shared date.
