Karl Frederic Neupert was a lieutenant commander in the United States Naval Reserve. From 27 June 1945 to 16 October 1945 he was captain of the destroyer Aylwin.

Aylwin, a Farragut-class destroyer, was built at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Her keel was laid in September 1933, she was launched in July 1934, and she was commissioned on 1 March 1935. The Navy named her for Lieutenant John Cushing Aylwin, who died of wounds received in December 1812 while serving in Constitution during the fight with the British frigate Java.

The ship Neupert took over had already served through nearly the whole Pacific war. On the morning of 7 December 1941 she lay at Pearl Harbor with much of the crew ashore. The men on board raised steam, fired at the attacking aircraft, and took her to sea. Robert Henry Rodgers, her commanding officer, was ashore when the attack began and returned to the ship the next day. In the years that followed, Aylwin served with carrier forces in the Coral Sea and at Midway, operated in the Guadalcanal campaign, took part in the Aleutian landings at Attu and Kiska, and supported the advances through the Gilberts, the Marshalls, the Marianas, the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. The ship received thirteen battle stars for that service.

Neupert assumed command on 27 June 1945, shortly after the Okinawa campaign ended. He remained captain through the surrender of Japan on 15 August 1945, while Aylwin was still on the Pacific side of the Panama Canal. In September the destroyer came home. She passed the canal on 20 September and reached New York on 25 September.

His command ended on 16 October 1945, the day the Navy decommissioned Aylwin at the New York Navy Yard. The ship was struck from the Navy list on 1 November 1945. Her hull was sold on 20 December 1946 and was cut up for scrap by 2 September 1948.
