Peveril Barton Reibey Wallop William-Powlett had Newcastle from 14 February 1942 until 8 May 1944. He took her as she was joining the Eastern Fleet, he had her when she was torpedoed off Derna, and he still had her for Operation Cockpit in April 1944. The rank in this record is captain, the rank he held in the ship. Uboat.net later lists him as rear-admiral and vice-admiral.

Uboat.net records that he was born on 5 March 1898. The page gives no place and no date of death.

The rank table lists midshipman on 2 August 1914, acting sub-lieutenant on 15 November 1916, sub-lieutenant on 15 July 1917, lieutenant on 15 October 1918, lieutenant-commander on 15 October 1926, commander on 31 December 1931, and captain on 31 December 1938. Rear-admiral is dated 8 January 1948 and vice-admiral 15 December 1950. He retired on 8 September 1954. The DSO is dated 8 January 1942, the CBE 4 September 1945, the CB 9 June 1949, and the KCB 1 May 1953. The page says it has no career narrative. It does not say what the DSO or the CBE was for.

He relieved Edward Arthur Aylmer on 14 February 1942. She joined WS16 on 21 February and was on Indian Ocean trade defence from 25 March. Mason finds no record of her in the Eastern Fleet operations after the attacks on Ceylon. On 10 May she reached Kilindini and was detached to the Mediterranean. On 15 June, in Operation Vigorous, a torpedo from the German E-boat S56 opened a 30-foot hole in her starboard side about 90 miles northwest of Derna. There were no casualties. She was repaired at Brooklyn. In May 1943 she became flagship of the 4th Cruiser Squadron, Eastern Fleet. He had her for Operation Player, Operation Thwart, the search in which Brake was scuttled, and Operation Cockpit on 16 April 1944. He left on 8 May 1944, two days after she had sailed for Operation Transom. Sidney Hugh Pinchin, and then James Gregson Roper, had her for the rest of that operation.

The flag ranks, the CB, the KCB and the retirement of 8 September 1954 are on the uboat.net table. The page does not record a death. A unithistories block that uses the name Peveril is a different household, with a birth in 1891, and it is not used.
