William Lenhart Hoffheins Jr. had Astoria (CL-90) as a captain from September 1947 to August 1948. She was on Pacific-coast duty. The war had been over for two years. No biography of him was on a page that could be saved.

NavSource's commanding-officer list for CL-90 gives the name William Lenhart Hoffheins Jr. and the rank of captain. It gives no class, no birth, no death, and no later rank. DANFS does not name him.

Not on that list.

His dates on Astoria (CL-90) are after the fighting. NavSource runs the command from September 1947 to August 1948 and gives no day in either month. He followed Captain Harry Bean Jarrett and was followed by Captain Louis Newcomb Miller. The command lines use those months. The sort date is 1 September 1947 because the list has no day.

The list does not say where he went in August 1948.
