William T. Reilly, an ensign in the Naval Reserve, is the fourth name in the officer roster of the coastal minesweeper Crossbill. The Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships entry, by Thomas Sheppard and dated 7 September 2017, gives him as Ens. William T. Reilly, USNR, from 20 May 1944. The next name is Lieutenant (junior grade) Robert C. Johnson, USNR, on 28 July 1944. The roster prints only the day each man assumed charge. Johnson's date is used here as the end of Reilly's tour. On that reading he had her for a little over two months.

Birth, home, and family were not in the entry.

No academy class and no earlier ship appear on the line. He followed Lieutenant (junior grade) Edward J. Foley, Jr. The roster gives Reilly as an ensign and the men on either side of him as lieutenants (junior grade). It does not say why the rank drops.

Crossbill was in Hawaiian waters for the whole war, sweeping out of Pearl Harbor, Bishops Point, Honolulu, and Port Allen on Kauai. The entry does not describe any particular job, sweep, or drill between 20 May and 28 July 1944. Those weeks sit inside the long Hawaiian routine and are not otherwise marked.

No later command, promotion, or date of death was found.
