- USS Flint (CL-97) Commander from 23 March 1946 · Relieved on 26 October 1946
Willis Ormond Johnson had the light cruiser Flint (CL-97) from 23 March 1946 until 26 October 1946. She was already at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. NavSource lists him as a commander, class of 1931, and gives no higher final rank. The command lines use commander.
Uboat.net gives his birth as 9 October 1909 in Illinois, with the town left blank. No death date was found on a page that identified this officer.
NavSource's class column and uboat.net both say the Naval Academy class of 1931. Uboat.net dates his rank as lieutenant from 1 July 1939. It lists one earlier command: the patrol craft PE-55, as lieutenant, from 28 July 1939, with no relief date. It says it has no further career.
He was not her wartime captain. Captain Charles Raymond Will had her from commissioning on 31 August 1944 through 5 October 1945, and Captain Elwood Dixon Poole had her from then until Johnson relieved him on 23 March 1946. By that date DANFS has her at Bremerton, where she had reported on 11 January 1946. She stayed there until she was placed out of commission on 6 May 1947. DANFS does not name Johnson. His relief on 26 October 1946 falls before that decommissioning.
Commander Walter Philip Reuland, USNR, is the next name on the NavSource list, from 26 October 1946 to 6 May 1947. Nothing after the relief was fetched for Johnson.
