HMS Indomitable was a fleet carrier of the Royal Navy, wearing pennant number 92. John Arthur Symons Eccles became her captain on 30 January 1944. He remained in command until he was relieved on 28 December 1945. She served as Vian's flagship in Task Force 57, the ship in which he flew his flag.
At Okinawa on 1 April 1945 she was still Vian's flagship when she was machine-gunned. She was not sunk.
Eccles was in command that April day, his time as captain having begun the previous January and running on until late December 1945. Machine-gunned on 1 April, Indomitable stayed afloat and survived the war.
