Sunk

Kaidai Type 7 cruiser submarine, the most successful boat of that class. Kure Naval Arsenal laid her down on 22 June 1940. On 20 October 1942 she torpedoed Chester and put that cruiser out of the war until September 1943. She made the first submarine supply run into Guadalcanal. On 17 November 1943 she sank Corvina, the only American submarine sunk by a Japanese submarine. Franks, Haggard, and Johnston sank her off Buka on 17 May 1944.
