Isokaze was a Kagero-class destroyer, built at Sasebo, launched on 19 June 1939 and commissioned on 30 November 1940. Off Horaniu on 18 August 1943 one American 5-inch shell hit her and wounded men. At Vella Lavella she was in the covering group. She was not sunk in either fight.
On 25 October 1944 she was in Kurita's screen off Samar, with Yahagi, Urakaze, Yukikaze, and Nowaki. She was not sunk.
On 7 April 1945 she sailed with Yamato. American carrier aircraft wrecked her southwest of Nagasaki. Her own side scuttled her. Hamakaze and Asashimo were lost the same day. Those losses are not credited to one plane, and they are not credited to Isokaze.
