FateSunk. Kagero-class destroyer. Screened the Pearl Harbor carriers and was not hit. At Midway a near miss damaged her and she stood by Soryu. The post-war account is that she put three torpedoes into Soryu. That loss is not credited to her. Off Samar she fired torpedoes at the escort carriers and was not sunk. No American ship lost that morning is credited to her. On 7 April 1945 near misses flooded an engine room and took her steering while she was with Yamato. Twenty men were killed and fifty-four wounded. Yukikaze took off 285 survivors and fired into the abandoned ship. The loss is credited to the air attack, not to Yukikaze, and not to one carrier. Struck 25 May 1945.
Armament (class)Three twin 5-inch mounts, two funnels, and two quadruple banks of tubes.
