Photos and infoNorth Carolina-class battleship. On the night of 14-15 November 1942 she was Rear Admiral Lee's flagship off Savo Island. The Japanese did not see her while they were shooting at South Dakota. She opened with 16-inch guns at about 8,400 yards and wrecked Kirishima. She was not hit.
