USS Nevada (BB-36) was a Nevada-class battleship of the United States Navy. Fore River at Quincy built her. She was launched on 11 July 1914 and commissioned on 11 March 1916, with Captain William Sowden Sims in command until 30 December 1916.

Captain Joseph Strauss relieved Sims that day and remained until 14 February 1918. Andrew Theodore Long then commanded until 14 October 1918, William Carey Cole until 7 May 1919, Thomas Pickett Magruder until 23 October 1919, William Dugald MacDougall until 4 May 1920, and Luke McNamee until 19 September 1921. Douglas Eugene Dismukes took command on 11 October 1921 and was relieved on 30 December 1922. John McClane Luby served until 7 September 1924, David Wooster Todd until 11 June 1926, and Clarence Selby Kempff until 20 September 1927.

Hilary Herbert Royall assumed command on 14 January 1928 and was relieved on 12 July 1930. John Joseph Hyland followed until 30 April 1932, William Satterlee Pye until 4 December 1933, Adolphus Staton until 25 June 1935, Robert Lee Ghormley until 23 June 1936, Claude Banks Mayo until 2 October 1937, and Robert Alfred Theobald until 10 May 1939. Francis Warren Rockwell then commanded until 4 June 1941, when Captain Francis Worth Scanland took the ship.

On 7 December 1941, during the Attack on Pearl Harbor, Nevada got underway while the air attack was in progress. Torpedo and bomb hits struck her, and she was beached. The damage is not credited to any single aircraft. She was repaired and kept as a fighting ship. Scanland was relieved on 15 December 1941.

Captain Harry LeRoy Thompson commanded from 15 December 1941 until 25 August 1942. Howard Fithian Kingman held command until 25 January 1943, Willard Augustus Kitts III until 21 July 1943, and Powell McClellan Rhea until 4 October 1944. Captain Homer Louis Grosskopf then took Nevada.

Under Grosskopf she bombarded Iwo Jima from 16 February 1945, and that gunfire included the landing on 19 February. On 1 April 1945 she was in the gunfire force at Okinawa and remained afloat.

Grosskopf was relieved on 28 October 1945 by Captain Cecil Clinton Adell, who stayed until Nevada was decommissioned on 29 August 1946. She had survived the war. The hull was later expended as a target. A later United States ship named Nevada, the submarine SSBN-733, is a different hull.
