White Plains was a Casablanca-class escort carrier, CVE-66. Captain D. J. Sullivan had her. The portrait shows her at San Diego in the spring of 1944, hull number 66 on the bow, a tug alongside.
On 25 October 1944 she was in Taffy 3. Salvos fell close. She was not sunk. No one Japanese ship is credited with a hit on her that decided anything. She got out with the carriers that lived.
