USS Tennessee (BB-43) was a Tennessee-class battleship of the United States Navy. The New York Navy Yard built her. She was launched on 30 April 1919 and commissioned on 3 June 1920.

On 7 December 1941, during the attack on Pearl Harbor, she lay inboard of West Virginia on Battleship Row. Bombs and burning oil damaged her. That harm is not pinned to one plane. She was not sunk.

In the Marshall Islands she shelled Roi and Namur on 31 January 1944, then Engebi, Eniwetok, and Parry. On 25 October 1944 she was in the battle line at the Battle of Surigao Strait. At Iwo Jima she bombarded from 16 February 1945, in the operation dated 19 February 1945.

On 1 April 1945 she was in the gunfire force at Okinawa, and she was not sunk. Damaged by bombs and fire at Pearl Harbor, she survived the war.

Jesse Barrett Oldendorf was flag in her, not her captain. On 12 August 1945 he shifted to Pennsylvania.
