USS Patterson (DD-392) was a Bagley-class destroyer of the United States Navy. Francis T. Spellman was her captain from 22 September 1937. On 7 December 1941 she lay in Pearl Harbor when the attack came. She remained afloat.

At the Battle of Savo Island on 9 August 1942, Patterson was the first Allied ship to see Mikawa's column. She broadcast the warning.

One shell hit her in that fight. The blow damaged a gun and killed ten of her men. The ship that fired is not known. Patterson was not sunk. In the morning she took Canberra's survivors off.

She survived the war and was still afloat at the surrender. The Navy decommissioned her on 8 November 1945, and she was sold for scrap on 18 August 1947.
