USS Selfridge (DD-357) was a Porter-class destroyer of the United States Navy. H. D. Clarke was her captain from 26 November 1936. From 1 November 1940 William Faulkner Amsden flew a squadron flag aboard her, while command of the ship remained with her captain.
On 7 December 1941 she was in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attack struck the harbor. She came through that morning still afloat.
At the Battle of Savo Island on 9 August 1942 she stood outside the night fight. The next morning she and Ellet scuttled the wrecked Canberra.
The Battle of Vella Lavella followed on 6 October 1943. After Chevalier and O'Bannon locked together, Selfridge attacked alone. While she was firing at the Japanese ships Shigure and Samidare, a torpedo hit her and blew her bow off. The torpedo is not credited to either of those ships by name. She was kept afloat. The bow lost at Vella Lavella was made good in repair. Selfridge survived the war.
