HMAS Napier, pendant G97, was an N-class destroyer and the leader of her flotilla. The hull was Royal Navy property, manned by an Australian crew and served in the Royal Australian Navy.

Stephen H. T. Arliss was her captain from 28 November 1940 until he was relieved on 7 November 1942. Arnold Green became captain that day.

From 4 April 1944 Arliss flew his flotilla flag in Napier, with command of the ship in other hands, until that pendant was struck on 4 June 1944. John Plunkett-Cole was in command on 21 October 1944, and H. J. Buchanan became captain on 2 November 1944.

In the Okinawa operation dated from 1 April 1945, Napier screened the carriers off Sakishima in May. She came through that screening afloat.

She was in Tokyo Bay for the surrender. Napier survived the war and was returned to the Royal Navy in October 1945.
