The name is a river. Yahagi was an Agano-class light cruiser, built at Sasebo, launched on 25 October 1942 and commissioned on 29 December 1943. Her work was to lead destroyers.
On 25 October 1944, two years to the day after her launch, she was in Kurita's screen off Samar with Nowaki, Isokaze, Urakaze, and Yukikaze. She was not sunk. No American ship lost that morning is credited to her.
On 7 April 1945 she sailed with Yamato toward Okinawa. American carrier aircraft sank her the same day they sank the battleship. Not credited to one plane.
