USS Tambor (SS-198) was a submarine of the United States Navy. John M. Murphy became her captain on 3 June 1940.

The Battle of Midway is the action set down for her, under the date 4 June 1942. Her part came on the morning after the carrier fight, when a Japanese cruiser force was still at sea. On 5 June 1942 she sighted Kurita's cruisers. The ships turned. In that turn Mogami rammed Mikuma. Tambor did not hit either cruiser.

She survived the war. The Navy decommissioned her on 10 December 1945 and struck her on 1 September 1959.
