Photos and infoLead ship of her class, named for the Mogami River. Built light under the London Treaty, then rebuilt as a heavy cruiser. She rammed Mikuma at Midway and lived. At Surigao Strait she was wrecked, and Akebono scuttled her.
Mogami classCrippled in Surigao Strait on 25 October 1944. Aircraft left her dead in the water. The destroyer Akebono scuttled her with one torpedo that afternoon.
