Photos and infoCleveland-class light cruiser. New York Shipbuilding, Camden. Launched 4 April 1942, commissioned 16 October 1942, Captain R. B. Carney. On 6 March 1943 her SG radar had two ships under the Kolombangara shore. She was in the cruiser line that sank Murasame and Minegumo. The gunfire is not credited to one ship. One of Waller's torpedoes hit Murasame. Denver was not hit. In the cruiser line at Empress Augusta Bay that sank Sendai. That fire is not credited to one ship. Three 8-inch shells hit her and did not explode. Not sunk. An aerial torpedo on 13 November 1943 killed 20 men. She was repaired and survived the war. Sold 29 February 1960.
