The name is Stanly, not Stanley. She was named for Fabius Maximus Stanly. She was a Fletcher-class destroyer, DD-478. The Charleston Navy Yard laid her down on 15 September 1941, launched her on 2 May 1942, and commissioned her on 15 October 1942. Commander Robert William Cavenagh had her from 12 December 1942.
On the night of 1–2 November 1943 she was in Burke's van off Empress Augusta Bay, with Charles Ausburne, Dyson, and Claxton. Burke's flag was in Charles Ausburne. The cruisers sank Sendai. That fire is not credited to one ship. Stanly was not sunk.
Myoko collided with Hatsukaze and cut off her bow. Stanly was among the American destroyers that then finished Hatsukaze, with Claxton, Spence, and Thatcher. That sinking is not credited to one of them.
She was decommissioned on 15 January 1947 and sold for scrap on 16 December 1971.
