The name is white dew. Shiratsuyu was the name ship of her class. Ten were built. Shigure was one of them. Sasebo laid her down on 14 November 1933, launched her on 5 April 1935, and commissioned her on 7 September 1936.
On 8 May 1942 she was in the screen of Shokaku and Zuikaku at the Coral Sea, with Shigure. She was not hit. On the night of 13 November 1942 she was on picket off the Russell Islands with Shigure and Yugure. The ships that ran together off Guadalcanal that night did it without her.
On the night of 1–2 November 1943 she was with Sendai, Shigure, and Samidare off Empress Augusta Bay. Captain Kuro Matsuda had her. She collided with Samidare. Both were damaged. Neither was sunk. The American cruisers sank Sendai. That fire is not credited to one ship. Shigure was not hit.
On 15 June 1944 she collided with the tanker Seiyo Maru and sank. She was struck on 10 August 1944.
