Gato-class submarine, the name ship. Electric Boat, Groton. Launched 21 August 1941, commissioned 31 December 1941, Lieutenant Commander William G. Myers. The name is the catshark. On her way to the war a Navy blimp depth-charged her off San Francisco. She was one of the twelve boats on the line west of Midway and the battle went past her. She is credited with ships after that, and she took children and nuns off Bougainville. On 15 August 1945 she was making an approach when the cease-fire came. She was in Tokyo Bay for the signing. Not sunk. Sold for scrap on 25 July 1960.
