Aylwin was a Farragut-class destroyer, hull DD-355. The Philadelphia Navy Yard launched her on 10 July 1934. She was commissioned on 1 March 1935.
At the Coral Sea she was in the carrier screen. She was not with Crace's cruisers, which had been sent toward the invasion passage. She was not sunk.
At Midway she was in Rear Admiral Spruance's screen, with Enterprise and Hornet. Aircraft crippled Yorktown on 4 June. The submarine I-168 sank the abandoned Yorktown on 7 June. Aylwin was not sunk in that battle.
She came through the war.
