Suzuya was a Mogami-class heavy cruiser. At Midway she was in Kurita's division with Mikuma and Mogami. She was not sunk there. Mikuma was, by carrier aircraft, after the collision. That is not Suzuya's kill.
On 25 October 1944 she was off Samar. A near miss from American carrier aircraft set off the torpedoes in her tubes. The fire could not be stopped. She sank. Not pinned to one plane. Vice Admiral Kazutaka Shiraishi, who had the cruiser division, died aboard her.
