USS Vestal (AR-4) was a repair ship of the United States Navy. Ships of her type were floating workshops, kept ready to mend other vessels so they could stay with the fleet.
On 7 December 1941 she was moored alongside the battleship Arizona when the attack on Pearl Harbor began. That morning placed a repair ship directly beside one of the harbor's largest targets.
Bombs damaged Vestal where she lay. The magazine explosion on the ship alongside her added to the harm, and the repair ship came through the morning badly hurt.
She was beached after the attack. The hull was later repaired, and the damage that had put her ashore did not end her service.
Vestal survived the war. The repair ship that had been torn up beside Arizona on 7 December 1941 was still in existence when the fighting was over.
