USS Lamson (DD-367) was a Mahan-class destroyer of the United States Navy. She spent the years before the Pacific war under a succession of captains, and she was still a commissioned destroyer when fighting began.
Hubert Esterly Paddock was her captain from 21 October 1936 until 1 June 1937. Byron Hall Hanlon held command from 16 June 1938 to 1 April 1940. Perley Earl Pendleton relieved him that day and remained until 1 April 1941, when Preston Vigginius Mercer took the ship.
Mercer stayed until 12 June 1942. Walter Terry Jenkins then commanded for eleven days, through 23 June 1942, and Phillip Henry Fitzgerald assumed command the same day. Fitzgerald was still captain when Lamson met the only action named for her in this account.
On 30 November 1942, at the Battle of Tassafaronga, Lamson and Lardner joined the force late and stayed at the rear. Lamson came into Wright's column late. She remained afloat at the end of the night.
Fitzgerald left on 1 November 1943. Joseph Russell Rubins commanded from that date until 1 March 1944, Charles H. Pitts until 1 May 1944, and John Vavasour Noel from 1 May 1944 until 31 July 1945. Robert McCormick Ayer then served as captain until 24 November 1945.
Lamson survived the war and was still afloat at the surrender. George Gill Ball became captain on 24 November 1945. On 1 July 1946 she was sunk as a target at Bikini.
