USS President Jackson (AP-37) was a United States Navy transport and the name ship of the President Jackson class. Newport News built her. She was launched on 7 June 1940 and commissioned on 16 January 1942. She went into service as a transport under the hull number AP-37. The class took its name from her.
On 7 August 1942 she joined the landings on Guadalcanal and Tulagi. Sailing with Transport Group YOKE, she put the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, ashore on Florida Island.
Charles William Weitzel was in command of President Jackson that day. The battalion left his ship for the beach on Florida Island while those landings were under way.
On 1 February 1943 the Navy reclassified her APA-18. She kept the name President Jackson under the new designation.
President Jackson survived. Her known wartime work was that August landing of the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, on Florida Island, and the later change of her hull number to APA-18.
