Source-limited. No biography could be found. The earlier draft notes (SHORT.md) reached the same conclusion. The facts below are all that could be confirmed.

Commander Lewis Farling Davis was the last officer to command the carrier Enterprise (CV-6) in commission. He held command from 31 January to 17 February 1947, when "the Big E," the most decorated American ship of the Second World War, was being made ready for decommissioning. NavSource has an official portrait of him.

Caution: a public-records search turns up a different Lewis F. Davis (born 1915 in Arkansas, an Army veteran). He is not this officer. Do not merge the two.

Needed before expanding: USNA class (Lucky Bag/Register of Alumni), dates of birth and death, and wartime service, from NHHC Modern Biographical Files or the Navy Register.
