USS Dunlap (DD-384) was a United States Navy destroyer, the name ship of a pair that followed the Mahan class in design. Her captains run from the summer of 1937 through the day she left commissioned service at the end of 1945.
Albert Ernest Schrader, Jr., was captain from 12 June 1937 until 5 March 1938, when Rockwell Justus Townsend relieved him. Townsend kept the ship until 12 June 1940. Carl Hilton Bushnell took command that day and remained until 15 September 1941.
Virginius Randolph Roane became captain on 15 September 1941 and was relieved on 21 April 1943. Clifton Iverson succeeded him. Iverson had Dunlap at Vella Gulf and stayed in command until 22 August 1944.
On 6 August 1943 Dunlap was in the Battle of Vella Gulf with Commander Frederick Moosbrugger’s torpedo division. Moosbrugger commanded the division that day, and Iverson was captain of the ship. Dunlap came through the battle undamaged.
Cecil Rice Welte relieved Iverson on 22 August 1944. He commanded Dunlap until she was decommissioned on 14 December 1945, and he was relieved on that same day. Dunlap survived. The hull was sold in 1947.
