Sinking of I-124
Off Darwin
Off Darwin on 20 January 1942, I-124 fired a torpedo at the corvette Deloraine and missed. Deloraine made the first depth-charge attack. Katoomba and Lithgow joined her, and Edsall was in the hunt. Postwar records credit the four ships together. The submarine was lost with her crew. The kill is not pinned to one of them.
