Photos and infoLexington-class carrier. Fitch flew his flag in her at Coral Sea. Japanese carrier aircraft put bombs and torpedoes into her. Fires and a gasoline explosion finished the ship as a fighting unit. Phelps sank the abandoned hulk. Not the later Essex-class Lexington.
